Fingal County Council employs an Environmental Educational Officer to promote Environmental Awareness Programmes, such as Green Schools, Fingal’s Greener Communities Competition, supporting the Community Environmental Action Fund (Local Agenda 21), the Anti-Litter and Anti Graffiti Fund, Green Dog Walker, Adopt a Patch, Stop Food Waste, Master Composter Workshops, Instruments Waste Prevention Project and Gum Litter Awareness.
Climate Change engagement is also part of the Awareness Programme.

The Anti-Litter & Anti-Graffiti Fund 2020 is now open for applications. The winning groups will each receive €2,000 to spend on the projects.

In 2019 we started the Instruments Project whereby we clean and mend the instruments presented for disposal at our Recycling Centres (Swords Estuary and Coolmine).
The Green Schools programme promotes environmental awareness within schools to the point where it becomes an intrinsic part of the ethos of the school.
Sports Club Sustainability Competition 2020
Community Environmental Action Fund 2019-2020 (formerly Local Agenda 21)
Councils can provide financial assistance to local groups including community groups, schools and environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to assist small-scale environmental projects which promote sustainable development.
Greener Communities 2020
Following due consideration, the Fingal County Council Greener Communities Competition will not proceed this year. This is in line with similar competitions and due to the Covid-19 restrictions in place.
Last year the competition focused on Biodiversity and increasing awareness and habitats. We hope that you will continue to garden with biodiversity in mind.
Composting & Stop Food Waste
Stop Food Waste is a national programme involving all Local Authorities. In Ireland we are generating at least 1 million tonnes of food waste each year with the majority of this managed in Ireland.
